Race Review – Ironman Branson 70.3

September 18, 2011 In keeping with the theme of unplanned races (Vineman anyone?) we decided, somewhat on a whim, to register for Ironman Branson 70.3.  Mindy enjoys the half iron distance, and I was looking for something to keep me training for Ironman Florida in November – so why not?  It also helped having a friend who graciously offered up her house as our home away from home for the weekend! While we had not done much biking or swimming since Vineman (July 30), we Continue reading →

The Tale of Two Triathlons

Ironman Arizona vs Vineman Mindy’s Tale of Two Triathlons While training for Vineman, I began preparing how I would blog about the event afterwards. I was excited with the anticipation of what I would write about – what a great experience the training was and how much fun the event was. I began preparing my Ironman Arizona page, talking about my first Ironman experience. I also began a page describing my training for Vineman so I could talk about how much more prepared I was Continue reading →

Race Review – Full Vineman 2011

Heading out On Thursday before the race, we got up way too early for a drive that would be much too long.  We met up with our driving mates at their house, loaded up bikes and gear, and began our drive from Phoenix to Guerneville, CA.  Roughly 13 hours, a dozen pee breaks, and a few stops for food that someone about to do a 140.6 shouldn’t eat, we were there.  We decided to rent a house in Guerneville because it was super close to Continue reading →

Ride Review – Sedona, Jerome, Prescott Valley

View heading towards Sedonafrom Jerome In the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to do a couple rides from Sedona, Arizona.  The first ride took us south on the 89A, up Mingus Mountain to Jerome where we turned and headed back to Sedona.  The second time we started a little south of Sedona near the Oak Creek Outlets. This time we rode along the 78 through Cornville and into Cottonwood where we again went up Mingus to Jerome and then kept going – Continue reading →

Ride Review – Snowbowl Hill

Ride Review – Snowbowl Hill Flagstaff, Arizona May 21, 2011 A couple members from the Jobing.com Women’s Team (Thanks Pam & Gail!) hosted a group ride weekend in Flagstaff. Day 1 was climbing up Snowbowl Hill … yes, it was a lot of climbing! We met in the Bashas’ parking lot (1000 N Humphreys St)  that morning at 11am. The crew I carpooled up with left Phoenix around 8:00am. Around 11:15 we were on our bikes, headed for the hill.   Starting at Bashas’ gave us Continue reading →

Ride Review – Wupatki Loop

Ride Review – Wupatki Loop Flagstaff, Arizona May 22, 2011 Day 2 of our Jobing.com Women’s Team Flagstaff weekend had us riding northeast to Wupatki National Monument. After a tough Day 1 of climbing Snowbowl Hill, we were ready for a nice scenic ride … I didn’t know how tough this ride was going to get! We headed out early Sunday morning – leaving the house a little after 8am and heading towards Bonito Park. We took US89 and turned to head east on NF-545. Just Continue reading →

Training Must Have – The Magic Bullet

Training Must Have – The Magic Bullet Yes, I’m serious … I LOVE our Magic Bullet and use it multiple times a day.  We got it at Costco – the full set is normally $50 but right now (and often) they put it on sale for $40 … well worth the money! It is a quick & convenient way to make shakes, drinks, etc. It is also very easy to clean! This is MUCH better than a normal blender!! It is also easy to travel with Continue reading →

Quick Tip – Cleaning Water Bottles

If you’re anything like us, water bottles collect quickly around the house and can be a pain to wash. Years back we found that denture cleaner is a safe way to remove mold from camelbacks (not that we ever leave our bottles & camelbacks full of things that turn moldy!), so I decided to try using it to clean our water bottles. It has become a huge time & energy saver with our water bottles and most importantly, keeps away the soapy taste that traditional Continue reading →

Ride Review – Desert Classic Century Ride

The Goods – a t-shirt, patchand bike light with batteries Ride Review  Desert Classic Century Ride April 30, 2011 After doing our first group ride in the beginning of the month, we were looking forward to finding another. In addition to having other people to ride with, it’s nice to have support on longer rides. The week prior to this ride, we found a groupon for half off the registration fee and couldn’t turn it down – $20 for a supported century ride, t-shirt and Continue reading →

Ride Review – City of Angels Fun Ride

Ride ReviewCity of Angels Fun Ride April 10, 2011 This month we participated in our first fun ride – the City of Angels Fun Ride in Los Angeles.  This ride started and ended at the LAPD Police Academy and took us all around Los Angeles – Dodger’s Stadium, Staples Center, Hollywood, Griffith Park, etc.  This was a great experience for us and got us excited to do more bike events. We were very impressed at how well this ride was organized. Kris found this ride while Continue reading →
