Riding to Work

After some apprehension, in the fall of 2009, I began riding my bike to work.  We bought our bikes that summer and had our first triathlon scheduled for November. I knew I needed to get miles in during the week and figured this would be a good way to do that. The first task was to figure out how I’d shower and get ready for work after my morning ride. Our school nurse’s office has a shower in it so I asked there first. Unfortunately, Continue reading →

Mindy’s Ironman Experience

Training Weeks before Days before Morning of SwimAs much as I didn’t want to get in the water, I knew I had to. There was no way I was going back to school and telling the kids I chickened out or quit – I was going to get in the water and swim as long as I could – the only way I was getting out was if they pulled me. The mass start is quite a sight and I had been told to take Continue reading →

A few good links…

With Twitter, Facebook and everything else online, I see a lot of articles floating by that I think are pretty swell for one reason or another.  And since I think it would be selfish of me to keep them all to myself, every once in a while I’ll try to pluck a few good links off the world wide web to share with you.  Hopefully at least one strikes your fancy….enjoy!  (If you see something you’d like to send our way, please do! Either post Continue reading →

Trip Review – Catalina Island

Trip Review – Catalina Island via the Trans Catalina TrailMarch 12-17, 2011 Over the past couple years we have had the opportunity to visit Catalina Island (small island west of Los Angeles) a couple times – once we went for a day scuba trip to Casino Point (excellent diving!) and the other time it was one of our stops during a 4-day cruise. Both times were great experiences and left us wanting more. We knew there was a lot more to the island than what Continue reading →

Race Review – Ragnar Relay Del Sol

Tribe Team Too! Race Review – Ragnar Relay Del Sol Feb. 25-26, 2011 This past weekend we participated in Ragnar Relay Del Sol. Our triathlon shop, Tribe Multisport, put together two teams consisting of Tribe regulars – members of the triathlon team, bike teams, etc. One of the employees (Jake) organized everything – he put the teams together, set up the volunteers, rented the vans, collected the registration fees, got the community food, sent out emails, put together meetings – he made it so all Continue reading →

Becoming a Swimmer… or at least "tri"ing to!

Growing up in Arizona, I was always very comfortable in the water. I spent the summers in our swimming pool playing just about any game we could come up with. As I got older we began going to the lakes for jet skiing and water skiing. Then, once Kris and I were married we started scuba diving. Being in the water is natural – however, swimming is not. While I love being in the water, I have never had any formal swim lessons.  I know Continue reading →

Gear Review – Nathan Hydration X Trainer Mutation

Time for another gear review… Today I’ll give a few thoughts on the Nathan Hydration X Trainer Mutation. The X Trainer is a single bottle system, as opposed to something like the Nathan Speed Series which holds multiple smaller bottles. I’ve been using the X Trainer for quite a while thanks to some weight loss which rendered my previous hydration belt useless.  With that said, I’m glad the X Trainer has become my default belt as it has all the features I was looking for. Gear Review – RaceReady Shorts

Time for another gear review!  Today we’ll take a look at running shorts by RaceReady.  After a going through our first few races in regular athletic shorts, sometimes with spandex shorts underneath to prevent any unwanted chafing, I slowly adopted more traditional running shorts.  Initially, I started with a pair of Adidas running shorts, something I’m pretty sure I found at an outlet store during a weekend trip to California.  I still have those shorts, and use them for training runs around the neighborhood.  They Continue reading →

Race Review – Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Race Review – Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend January 6-9, 2011 This was our first time participating in the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.  We have participated in the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon several times and have considered this event before but the timing of it is a little tough. It takes place the 2nd weekend of January. This is a smart move for Disney since that is the first slow weekend after the holiday rush. It makes it tough to travel to because of that same Continue reading →
